One of the most important decisions you will ever make is deciding among the many cosmetic surgeons in your area. You want to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible with your final choice so that you can be confident you’ll be happy with the results. Here are some considerations to keep in mind before you choose.

It is critical that you do an extensive amount of research, not only regarding the type of procedure that you want but also the doctor who will perform it. You need to look at his or her training, education, experience, and competence. Also, it is important that you find out whether or not the doctor you are considering has had any sort of claims filed against him or her by patients who have undergone the same procedure that you will have. Look closely at any available before-and-after pictures of previous patients and make sure you are comfortable with the doctor’s previous results. Speak to those patients if you can.

The Types of Doctors Who Become Cosmetic Surgeons
There has been a substantial rise in the number of people who have chosen to have plastic surgery performed in recent years. As a result, there are more cosmetic surgeons in the field. There is a very competitive pool of available doctors, so you want to make sure that you make your choice based on professionalism and ability, not any sort of hard sales tactics you may experience.

How to Evaluate Cosmetic Surgeons
If one of the doctors you are considering practices in a well-established hospital with a strong reputation, that is obviously a plus. These types of facilities evaluate doctors based on the competence, training, experience, and education just like you should. If a doctor is allowed to practice in that hospital, that is a good sign that he or she has met the criteria that you should be looking for.

However, there are still many, many questions that you should ask before choosing a doctor, even if he or she practices in a facility that has a sterling reputation. Find out how long the doctor has performed the specific procedure that you will have, and ask where he or she received training in that procedure. Make sure you know what type of continuing education the doctor has pursued and how much experience he or she possesses.

You’ll also want to know how many patients have had to return for corrections or revisions, and get detailed information regarding the risks and possible complications of the procedure you are having. All of the doctors you are considering should have an ample number of before-and-after pictures for you to see. The more pictures available, the more experience that doctor will have.

It may seem like a lot of effort is required to make your best possible choice among cosmetic surgeons, but the work you put in now can help you enjoy long-term benefits.

Attempting to determine the cause for severely chapped lips is never simple. There are various causes you will need to research, rule out and note the results. Fortunately, we compiled a list of the ten most common causes of chronic chapped lips in order to give you a starting point for identification of the culprit.

1. Excess vitamin A may be the cause behind your peeling lips. Regardless of whether the source of your vitamin A comes from whole foods or supplements, taking in more than 25,000 I.U. per day might make you want to examine this further.

2. In addition to excessive vitamin A, you may be ingesting excessive Vitamin B12. The result of this is that you develop a cobalt allergy from taking your B12 supplements and develop crusty, swollen lips.

3. Often overlooked, toothpaste is a very common cause of chapped lips. Most toothpastes contain the ingredient guaiazuline, that commonly results in a contact allergy.

4. Red dye is an ingredient in numerous common products. Items like gum, candy, mouthwash, and lozenges all contain red dye that may cause an allergic reaction.

5. Metal objects like paper clips and pocket change is a very likely culprit for causing chronic chapped lips. An allergic reaction to metal may present itself on your lips.

6. Orange juice as well as any other citrus juice can irritate your lips. Citrus can cause photo-toxic reaction that appears to be chapped lips.

7. Cinnamon flavoring can produce lip chapping. This flavoring is commonly used in gum, candy, and mouthwash.

8. Lipstick containing the ingredient propyl gallate can also cause a contact allergy.

9. Various other lip care products are worth noting when it comes to narrowing in on allergic reactions. Many contain Phenylsalicylate or salol, which is commonly the cause.

10. Excessive fig consumption can also cause an allergic reaction due to photo-toxicity.

Board certified plastic surgeon. Those are the words you must see if contemplating any cosmetic surgery procedure. You might ask yourself “Does that really matter?”. The answer is an emphatic yes.

The number of reports about ‘botched’ plastic surgery has skyrocketed recently. A careful inspection shows that most of these so awful results where not performed by real plastic surgeons. Most of the surgeries reported in the media are performed by licensed physicians, but not board certified plastic surgeons. What’s the difference?

To become a board certified requires completing an approved medical school. Then there are a few options. Older plastic surgeons used to complete a 5 year general surgery residency followed by 2 years of plastic residency and sometimes an additional fellowship. (That was my path.) Another options is to complete a combined program with 3 years of general surgery and 3 years of plastic surgery. An additional path is to complete an ENT, Orthopedic, or oral surgery residency and then complete plastic surgery.

You can see that whatever path is chosen, the training is extensive. General patient care is learned first, then the fine points of cosmetic and reconstructive care. It is an extensive training program.

Lets look at some of the recent news posts about botched plastic surgery:

Nip/Tuck Nightmare: The Dangerous New World of Cosmetic Surgery posted on Fox News
Case of ‘uniboob’ a startling reminder to pick plastic surgeon with care posted on MSNBC
Lack of training can be deadly in cosmetic surgery posted on USA Today
British woman dies after botched butt ‘enhancement’ in a hotel also posted on USA Today
Non-surgical cosmetic options also have risks was another USA Today post
Each of these news articles are worth reviewing. They are scary and the should give you pause. Is your surgeon certified? In plastic surgery?

One more thing I want you to see. Watch this very short video, put out by the ASPS. The video is on the main page and is entitled “Do Your Homework”.

So please, do your homework. Make sure your surgeon is board certified in plastic surgery. Make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, so you know they adhere to ethical principles and lifetime learning goals. Make sure not to skip this step or you could end up on one of the ‘awful plastic surgery’ websites. I’m sure that is not the way you want people to see you.

Ever wonder why organic products are on the rise? And why more and more beauty products are coming out as natural & or organic? Reasoning is because we are finding as women there are a lot of ingredients in our beauty products we dont want to be using on our bodies.

Chemical-free skincare products are increasing as women are discovering just what they want and dont want to put onto our bodies. We are discovering more each day that there are natural alternatives to using man-made chemicals.
These chemicals such as parabens, petrochemicals, silicone and foaming agents such as sodium laurylsulphate. You will find these ingredients can be found in a lot of everyday products such as shampoos, body washes and liquid hand soaps. More reasoning to move to using more natural and organic products because its estimated that our skin may absorb over half of what we put onto it.

Did you know its possible that we might be using up to 200 different chemicals a day in just our daily skincare regime? Ways to cut this down is to start looking into more organic beauty products with less ingredients.

Did you know that there are now more natural ingredients being tested that can give you the instant results once only done by chemicals? Start checking out looking for ingredients in your beauty products such as essential oils, oak extracts, green and or white teas, chamomile and rose waters just for starters.

For makeup such as eye shadows, blushes, and foundations start looking into mineral lines. But be aware that some foundations have ingredients that are not natural. Again look for mineral products with the least number of ingredients. Not all organic makeup is truly organic but most mineral makeup is. Using only mineral pigments, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide they are also non-comedogenic and wont clog your pores. There are multiple number of companies online and off that offer mineral makeup now.

Mineral makeup is free of parabens, artificial colors, silicones and are fragrance-free. By using mineral makeup that comes in less packaging also helps reduce your carbon footprint overall.

As we as consumers start making demands for more choices about our cosmetics being more organic, beauty companies are starting to take notice. From sulfate free shampoos to organic body care and food, as we speak up against chemicals in our daily beauty needs things are slowly being to change.
Going green in a whole is not as hard as one thinks, just start thinking about ways that you yourself can help use more organic beauty products in your everyday beauty needs.

Arguably, one of natures most highly appreciated and most widely used sweetener is honey. It is a delicious mix of complex and simple sugars dissolved in water, and it has a multitude of applications in cooking, baking and confectionery, among others.
Just as the bees made honey, they also made another helpful bee product called beeswax. Beeswax is a natural wax produced in the bee hive of honey bees. Throughout the ages beeswax has played a significant role in history and folk lore. From the myth of Icarus flying too close to the sun with wings made of beeswax to Pilyn who described a broth made from beeswax used as a remedy for dysentery and as a skin softener, beeswax was often used by the characters in ancient folk lore. Some cultures even used beeswax as currency.
Beeswax today has so many different uses. It is used in the production of a variation of candles. Beeswax candles burn brighter, cleaner, and longer than regular candles. It emits a subtle fragrance as it burns, which hints at the honey and nectar used to produce beeswax.
Another common application of beeswax is in lip balm. Lip balm is a waxy substance applied topically to the lips of the mouth to relieve chapped or dry lips. It is applied similarly to lip gloss, although for less cosmetic purposes. Lip balm made with beeswax also contains ingredients such as coconut oil and sunflower oil, which help moisturize the lips. Beeswax seals in all the beneficial ingredients to keep the moisture in each beeswax lip balm tube.
Among the many products taken from beeswax lip balm tube is the one product that is designed to soothe wind burn or dry, chapped lips, without the use of heavy petro-chemicals. And because it is a hundred percent natural, environmentalists actually promote the use of beeswax lip balm over chemical variants.
Truly, the inclusion of beeswax for lip balm is slowly making positive changes to the environment. And those who use beeswax lip balm not only help save the Earth, they also get healthy, luscious, moist lips to boot.
